The long Road Back into the Dawn of Time

The Long Road Back is a compilation of thirty-odd years of my genealogical research. During that time I produced several detailed family trees dating back to the early 1600s in Scotland & England, but then the paper records dried up and the trail grew cold in what is referred to as hitting the 'ol Brick Wall. My retirement hobby spiralled out of control when I discovered my line of ancient ancestors went back into the very dawn of time. Today the quest for my ancient ancestor's distant past is like a virus that continues to consume my waking hours.

Following the Long Road Back into the Dawn of Time, my ancestors' footsteps echo through the corridors of history, and have left behind a trail of mysteries waiting to be unraveled. Through the lens of modern science, particularly the remarkable tool of DNA analysis, I've embarked on a journey that transcends millennia, tracing the intricate paths of human migration and evolution. This past winter's work was not merely an academic pursuit but a voyage of self-discovery, connecting me to my ancient past in ways previously unimaginable.

At the heart of this exploration lies the enigma of my origins, rooted in the cradle of humanity - northeast Africa - some 60,000 years ago. Through the meticulous analysis of genetic material passed down through generations I've endeavored to piece together the narrative of my ancestor's odyssey across continents and epochs. From the sun-scorched plains of Africa to the misty highlands of Scotland, the story of human migration unfolds, each genetic marker a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the inexorable drive to explore new horizons.

I dove deep into the annals of prehistory, where the tapestry of human evolution was woven over millions of years. From the emergence of the earliest species some seven million years ago to the ascent of Homo sapiens as the dominant species on Earth, the evolutionary saga is both awe-inspiring and humbling. By examining fossil records, archaeological findings, and cutting-edge genetic DNA research, my aim is to illuminate the evolutionary milestones that shaped our species, from the advent of bipedalism to the cognitive revolution that propelled Homo sapiens to the apex of intellectual achievement.

Throughout this past winter's work, I have embraced the spirit of curiosity and discovery that has propelled humanity forward since the dawn of time and now have a profound understanding of my heritage and the enduring legacy of those who came before me. I stand in awe of their achievements.
