Aircraft History

1942 - The plane was constructed as a C-47-DL by Douglas Aircrafty Company in Long Beach, California, USA. Frame number 6085. Received by the USAF on 28 Nov 1942. Transferred to US Army Airforce in December 1942 at Daggett Modification Center CA and registered as 41-18679. The picture below is an identical plane.

1943 - In January 1943 the plane was moved to Mobile Air Depot, Brookley Army Airforce in Atlanta via Sedalia AAF MO. In April 1943 it was at Dunnellon AAF FL with deployments to Lawson AAF GA, Orlando AAF FL and Leesburg AAF GA. (Unverified)

1944 - In August of 1944 the plane moved to the 805th AAF Base Unit (Combat Crew Training Station [Troop Carrier], 1st Troop Carrier Command), George AAF IL. (Unverified)

1945 - April of 1945 it was part of the 4007th AAFBU (Air Technical Service Command), Brookley AAF AL (deployments to Greenville AAF NC). Later in October it was transferred to Reconstruction Finance Corp., Walnut Ridge AAF OK and dropped from inventory as surplus. (Unverified)

In December of 1945 it was acquired by Canadian Pacific Airlines and re-registered as CF-CPX. They operated the plane until June of 1969.

1969 - June 19, 1969 the aircraft was acquired by Harrion Airways ‘Kluane’ of Vancouver, BC, Canada. Registration remained as CF-CPX. By 1971 Harrison Airways was flying weekly scheduled flights from Vancouver to Burns Lake BC, Hyland Post, Schaft Creek (on request), Eddontenajon & back to Vancouver.

1976 - Harrison Airways went into receivership in February of 1976 following financial difficulties.

Unconfirmed info that CF-CPX was next transfered to Futura Airlines as C-FCPX???

1979 - On 3, October 1979 it was re-registered as N8061A when transfered to Stannelco Inc. of Anchorage, ALaska. USA


1982 - The plane was next acquired by Salaire Airlines of Spokane, Washington, USA

1996 - In Novenber of 1996 the plane was acquired by Jim Hankins Air Service of Jackson, Mississippi, USA. It was flying cargo under contract for UPS. Was still active in March 2003. Still flying in 2010.

The plane was still registered to JIM HANKINS AIR SERVICE INC of Jackson MS on 2 June 2006.

2006 - From the pictures below it would appear the plane has been retired.

At that time the plane was believed to be heading for the boneyard. The picture below indicates the process of cannibalization may have started; the rudder detached and the port landing gear possibly missing.

According to some online searching, it's possible the plane was still reasonably complete with engines in 2015.

2017 - March 15, 2017 - Registration transferred to Preferred Airparts LLC of Kidron, Ohio and was flown north from Jackson, MS in April 2017 to a strip in Apple Creek, Ohio. The plane was then put up for sale.

2018 - On 25 January 2018 the plane fueled up on the ramp at Byerly Aviation in Peoria Illinois on her flight west.

January 29, 2018, after a stop-over in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the plane sucessfully landed at the airport in Spanish Fork, Utah around 11:00 am.
